Stock Split Calculator: New Price & Quantity (2026)

Calculate impact of stock splits on holdings

The Stock Split Calculator instantly computes exactly how a corporate stock split alters your portfolio. When a company's stock price becomes too high, they perform a split to make the shares optically 'cheaper' and more accessible to retail investors.

While the total monetary value of your investment mathematically remains identical the second the split happens, understanding your new adjusted buy price and share count is critical for future profit tracking and taxation.

The Stock Split Calculator helps investors understand how stock splits affect their holdings. When a company splits its stock, the number of shares increases while the price per share decreases proportionally—keeping your total investment value the same.

How Does the Stock Split Calculator Work?

A stock split divides existing shares into multiple new shares. The calculator shows your new share count and adjusted price per share based on the split ratio. Common split ratios include 2:1 (2 new shares for each old share) and 5:1.

New Shares = Old Shares × (Split Ratio)

Where:

  • Split Ratio = New Shares ÷ Old Shares (e.g., 2:1 means ratio of 2)
  • New Price = Old Price ÷ Split Ratio
  • Total Value remains unchanged immediately after split
  • Forward Split (2:1, 5:1): Increases shares, decreases price proportionally
  • Reverse Split (1:2, 1:10): Decreases shares, increases price proportionally
  • Purpose: Make shares more affordable for retail investors
  • Tax Impact: No immediate tax liability on stock splits

Example: 5:1 Stock Split Calculation

Ravi holds Infosys shares before a 5:1 stock split.

Before Split:
• Shares Owned: 100 shares
• Price per Share: ₹7,500
• Total Value: ₹7,50,000

After 5:1 Split:
• New Shares: 100 × 5 = 500 shares
• New Price: ₹7,500 ÷ 5 = ₹1,500 per share
• Total Value: ₹7,50,000 (unchanged)

Ravi now has 500 shares at ₹1,500 each—same total value but more liquid shares!
